Last spring, Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) invited Stanford Commute Club members to submit photos illustrating why they use sustainable transportation to get to work. The “Why I Commute the Way I Do” Photo Contest garnered 93 total photo submissions from 41 Commute Club members. Of those, 16 winning shots were selected. They included stunning photos of flowers, birds, a horse, a sunset and a couple of self-portraits.

JORGE DE LUNA, educational program coordinator for the School of Medicine’s Office of Community Health, had two winning entries, both of flowers in bloom at the main entrance to Stanford Hospital and at the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge.

To accompany a photo of The Dish – one of her two winning entries –  ELAINE ADOLFO, associate director of the Center for Internet and Society at the Stanford Law School, wrote, “My husband and I carpool to campus, and we found the best way to wait for traffic to die down is if you walk The Dish. It’s around three to four miles. Listen to music while looking at great scenery. Love it.”

“I am frequently stopped in the spring by fuzzy trail obstructions! Babies and spring are great on a bike! Won’t see this in a car,” wrote KATT CLARK, an Immersive Learning Center assistant, who commutes from Mountain View to her job at the School of Medicine by biking along the bay. She captured a photograph of some of the wildlife she encounters on the trail.

“The submissions were so inspiring that we decided to feature them in a 2015 Commute Club calendar and also in posters and a banner,” said BRIAN SHAW, director of P&TS.

To view the winning photographs or to request one of the photos that has been featured as a poster, visit the contest website. Commute Club members who did not receive a 2015 calendar may request one on the membership gift page.
