McCaffrey named most versatile player in college football

The accolades continue for sophomore CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY, who was just named the winner of the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile player in major college football.

McCaffrey is a running back and kick return specialist who also lined up at blocking back, slot, wildcat quarterback and wide receiver on his way to the NCAA season-record for all-purpose yards.

McCaffrey and his family will be honored February at the annual Paul Hornung Award Banquet in Louisville, Kentucky.

McCaffrey has already been named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, MVP in the conference championship game and CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. He is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, the Doak Walker Award, the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Award.

“I am beyond blessed and humbled to be named the Paul Hornung Award winner,” said McCaffrey. “To be mentioned in the same breath with the award’s previous winners and Mr. Hornung, one of the most versatile players ever to play the sport, is incredible. This honor is a testament to all the efforts and support of my teammates, coaches, staff and the entire Stanford football program.”

“Christian McCaffrey can do it all on offense, and on kick and punt returns,” said the award’s namesake, Paul Hornung. “He has physical skills, awareness on the field, focus and determination, a tremendous combination. McCaffrey plays the game the way I did — he’ll do anything to help his team win.”
