Dean of Research

This office recommends and promulgates new research policy and oversees implementation and exceptions.  

Knowledge and discoveries from Stanford can be transferred outside of the University to benefit the general public.

EH&S provides guidelines and resources for a variety of health and safety activities.

The Industrial Contracts Office (ICO) is responsible for negotiating and signing sponsored research, material transfers, and related research agreements with industry, except for clinical trial agreements.

 

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) helps faculty and students to maximize global opportunities that enrich research and learning.

The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) provides pre-award and post-award administrative services for sponsored projects.

The Research Compliance Office (RCO) is responsible for oversight and management of Stanford’s Administrative (Compliance) Panels and ensures compliance with applicable policies, accreditation standards, and external regulations.

Science outreach includes organized activities targeted at youth, school teachers, and the general public that will increase their interest, understanding, and involvement in math, science, and engineering.

SLAC is a multipurpose laboratory for astrophysics, photon science, accelerator, and particle physics research.

The Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Education and Research (Spectrum) is a Stanford University independent research center funded in part by an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). Its goal is to accelerate and enhance medical research, from basic discovery to improved patient care.

Other Research Offices

Business Affairs provides integrated financial, technological, business and human resource services for the benefit of the University community. Business Affairs includes many of the administrative organizations that support Stanford's academic mission.

Cost and Management Analysis determines, proposes, and negotiates the Facilities and Administrative (Indirect) Cost Rates and Fringe Benefits Rates with the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

Home to more than 50 centers and research groups, the School of Earth Sciences affords its researchers the freedom to look across disciplines for solutions, benefiting from many perspectives.

Engineering Research Administration (ERA) supports Principal Investigators in the School of Engineering in pre and post award research administrative activities from proposal submission to final closeout.

The Property Management Office (PMO) is responsible for property (capital assets) administration.

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs oversees, develops, and manages policies related to postdoctoral scholars at Stanford; offers educational programs and services to postdoctoral scholars; and collaborates with university organizations, faculty, postdocs, their administrators, and external entities in order to facilitate an experience that supports the personal growth and professional development of each postdoc as a trainee and in preparation for an independent research, professional, and academic career.

RAPC develops administrative policy for extramural research in conjunction with the Dean of Research Office and Office of Sponsored Research, interprets federal policy, manages federal and non-federal audits of sponsored activities, and manages recharge activities. RAPC supports and develops systems that aid financial compliance.  RAPC manages the University burdening process and addresses school and departmental research financial compliance questions.

Research Financial Compliance and Services (RFCS) provides compliance oversight and services to Stanford’s research community and supporting infrastructure.

The Research Management Group (RMG) in the School of Medicine serves as the central resource and expert partner on research administration, providing support, and oversight of sponsored projects.

The Office of Research Financial Reporting is a division of Office of Research Financial Compliance and Services.

Our mission is to serve as the central school resource and expert partner on research administration acting as the point of contact in the School of Humanities and Sciences for questions and concerns regarding administration of sponsored and non-sponsored research from pre-award proposal preparation to post-award activities and all steps in between, in addition to conflict of interest and conflict of commitment. We work to ensure compliance with federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and University policies in support of the research and educational mission of the School and its administrative operations.

The School of Medicine’s Health and Safety Programs Office provides information about: safety in laboratories and offices, the School’s emergency preparedness program, strategies for regulatory compliance, and resources to help you work safely.

Sponsored Receivables Management (SRM) provides post-award administrative and financial invoicing services, payment application and timely collection services for sponsored projects, clinical trials and the Academic Service Centers and Program Income facilities of the University.

University Corporate and Foundation Relations helps faculty and administrators identify and approach private foundations, coordinate solicitations, grant proposals, and obtain institutional signatures. Contact this office to request clearance to apply to restricted foundations.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education (VPGE ) works collaboratively with Stanford's schools, and departments to enhance the quality of graduate education at Stanford University.
