History

The Pilipino-American Student Union at Stanford University traces its roots all the way back to 1990, when it was founded in the capable hands of Rand Quinn '92 and Julius Paras '91. In those days, it was known as the Stanford Filipino Association. Although there were no formal committees at the time, everything was new and exciting. With the strength and combined enthusiasm of many dedicated members, the SFA grew in numbers and participation.

The years that followed marked other beginnings, such as the rise of Kayumanggi, the traditional Filipino dance troupe; Pilipino Culture Night (up until very recently known as the Kayumanggi Spring Show); and the Pilipino Youth Leadership Conference, which seeks to empower local high school students.

In addition to a thriving general member population, PASU today consists of nine different committees, all under the stalwart guidance of two passionately committed co-chairs. Through our many events and outreach, we continue to live out the legacy laid down for us over twenty years ago, and strive to celebrate our shared Filipino-American identity with our own unique flavor.
