Towards supporting Stanford’s research and educational mission, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs oversees, develops and manages policies related to postdoctoral scholars at Stanford; offers educational programs and services to postdoctoral scholars; and collaborates with university organizations, faculty, postdocs, their administrators and external entities in order to facilitate an experience that supports the personal growth and professional development of each postdoc as a trainee and in preparation for an independent research, professional and academic career.
The office responsibilities include:
- Review and approval of all postdoctoral scholar appointments at Stanford,

Development of policies and procedures affecting postdoctoral scholars and their services at Stanford, including salary setting and regular funding and compensation audits,

Oversight and management of several endowed fellowships to support research and travel by postdoctoral scholars in the School of Medicine and in the biosciences,

Collaboration with the offices of career services to provide support through professional development and skill-building programs; and

Training and workshops for faculty and staff who appoint and mentor postdoctoral scholars.
