I study the relationships between marketization, criminality, and penal reform institutions in Cuba. My current research focuses on understanding and historically situating the ways in which official and unofficial Cuban conceptions of criminality, which are entangled with state-driven techniques of rehabilitation and reform, have transformed through and within a variety of social assemblages-- primarily, colonial and post-colonial race politics, class structures, black markets, street life, globalization, and revolutionary pedagogies.
