Bishop, Emily - Computer and Media Resources Specialist Emily08.jpg

Emily is a Computer and Media Resources Specialist in the Department of Anthropology. She is responsible for assisting the department with various media, graphics, and publishing needs including web design, publication layout, and logo design. She also provides front-end technical support to faculty, students, and staff. Emily has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from University of British Columbia and has over 10 years of marketing experience in the high tech industry before coming to Stanford.

I have been working in the Department for more than 20 years and as Department Manager for most of that time. My role in the department is to make sure all aspects of the academic and administrative program run smoothly. I was an undergrad at Stanford but have a BS and MA from the University of Minnesota. I love working in Anthropology, in large part, because of the opportunity to work with the faculty and student. I enjoy travel, love to read, and would like to find more time to do my sketching. I am an avid theatre-goer and a passionate Stanford women’s basketball fan.

Coughlan, Shelly - Student Services Officer coughlan.jpg

Shelly has been an employee with Stanford University since 1998. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and a Master's Degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

Engel, Claudia - Academic Technology Specialist claudia.jpg

Claudia Engel is the Academic Technology Specialist for the Department of Anthropology. She assists faculty and staff in the advanced use of digital technology and works with faculty in the classroom and in the field. She also teaches courses herself. Her academic training is in historical demography. Her technical expertise is in collaborative technologies and GIS for anthropological research. Claudia has received several degrees from the University of Göttingen, Germany--these include a B.S. in Educational Sciences, a M.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Anthropology. Before coming to Stanford she worked in Argentina, Germany, and Spain.

Jimenez, Kaila - Academic Affairs Coordinator Kai08.jpg

Kaila Jimenez is the Academic Affairs Coordinator in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. She is responsible for the operation of the academic program of the department. Kaila works closely with faculy to organize, manage and implement curricula, develop and publicize courses, consult with faculty on course offerings, schedule classes and sections, update the Bulletin and Time Schedule, and supervise and maintain university and departmental course evaluations for all faculty and TAs. Kaila was born in Panama, and has worked at Stanford for the past six years.

Kidwell, Jennifer - Financial Management Analyst jen1.jpg

As the Financial Management Analyst, Jen manages all finance, procurement, and accounting activities for the Department of Anthropology. She is also responsible for all sponsored research for the department and manages the internal pre-award process including budget development and proposal submission, as well as post-award sponsored funding which includes ensuring budgetary and spending activities are in compliance with sponsor guidelines. Jen has worked at Stanford since 2002.

Manzanares, Maria - Office Manager Maria.JPG

Maria has worked for Stanford University since 2001. She came to the Department of Anthropology in September 2007 as the Office Manager. She is responsible for maintaining building operations and maintenance, and faculty financial transactions. Before coming to Anthropology, Maria worked for The Haas Center for Public Services, Computer Science, and the Department of Classics.

Tongco, Rachel - Administrative Assistant rachel_tongco_small.jpg

Rachel Tongco is an administrative assistant in the Department of Anthropology. She helps maintain faculty financial transactions and organize graduate admissions. Rachel received a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UCSD and has been working at Stanford University since 2009.

Anahid Sarkissian, Undergraduate Student Services Specialist anahid.jpg

Anahid Sarkissian is the Undergraduate Student Services Specialist for the Department of Anthropology. She supports and works closely with undergraduate students, staff, and faculty within the department. Anahid obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education, along with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, from San Jose State University.
