The Stanford Men's Club team entered the CSA Nationals ranked 26th. The lineup was bolstered by the reemergence of its no.1 seed 'Sunshine' Baldock, but unfortunately was without the presence of senior captain Paul 'Petie' Lee, who instead seemed unsettlingly adept in his new role as assistant assistant coach/head heckler. The campaign began on Friday at Choate Rosemary Hall against 31st ranked Hobart, a team Stanford had faced earlier in the season. The front end of the lineup stood firm, notching up wins throughout the top 5. The only losses came at the 6, 7, and 9 seed with Matt 'The X Factor' Duhamel losing a heartbreaker in 5 games. After topping Hobart 6-3, the Cardinal faced Bucknell on Saturday afternoon. The team stamped their authority blanking Bucknell 9-0 in a comprehensive victory. That evening the team enjoyed an emotional dinner dedicated to the seniors Mark 'Junior' Wieland, Petie Lee, and 'T Bo' Park, with family. After a good night's sleep (where the team notched only a single noise complaint) the team arose at 6:30 am to head over to the Yale courts in preparation of their Conroy Cup final against 25th ranked Colby College. The first round of matches saw 'Big Willie Style' Macfarlane and Miles Rainman Bennett earn crucial victories as the 3rd and 6th seeds. Yet Colby fought back with Junior being the lone victor in the second round. Going 3-3 into the final round, Tyler Tinker Tailor Soldier Octopus pulled off a stunning one-legged win as no. 4. Soon after came the battle shrieks of 'Petie' Lee indicating that Johan had won his match against a hard-hitting opponent in 5 games. Though 'Sunshine' lost valiantly, the Cardinal had completed the Stanford upset of Colby by a score of 5-4. Not to be outdone by the Varsity Women, the Club Men's team too won the Best Sportsmanship Award, taking home the Conroy Cup too (which Junior almost managed to lose).
