CalMod Career Opportunities

The Caltrain Modernization (CalMod) Program is a $1.7 billion capital program that will deliver an advanced signal system, electrification of the peninsula corridor, and electric vehicles.  The advanced signal system is scheduled to be operational by late 2015 and electrified Caltrain service by 2020.

Currently, the CalMod team is overseeing the development and release of two Request for Proposals: design-build for electrification infrastructure and electric vehicles.

The following CalMod positions are open at this time:

Rail Construction Liaison

This position is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of operational support for the electrification of the commuter railroad (Caltrain) and related systems improvements.

Examples of Essential Functions and Duties

  • Provide oversight, coordination, and implementation of the operational work plans along Caltrain right of way.
  • Develop and analyze monthly utilization reports of all work windows and identifies trends, delays, inefficiencies and other issues.  Make recommendation for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Caltrain’s operation contractor, engineer, District’s staff/consultant, and other stakeholders. 
  • Provide oversight and coordination in the identification of work windows, site specific work plans, support from the Caltrain operations contractor, and availability of operations staff and Caltrain support.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of EMU (Electrified Multiple Units) testing and scheduling operations with Caltrain Operations support staff and engineers to comply with program schedule.
  • Participate in the weekly track rights allocation meeting to ensure work windows are provided to support the CalMod implementation schedule.
  • Provide support to the Project Delivery Director in developing short and long-term work programs, for electrification and EMU contracts.
  • Track long term calendar of special events that could affect access for work and recommend alternatives to avoid delays.
  • Develop reports and presentations for internal and external audiences.  Prepare materials for presentations at various stakeholder venues.
