The California Department of Education (CDE) reports both state and federal accountability results under the general heading of the APR system. The APR includes Academic Performance Index (API) reports, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports, and Program Improvement (PI) reports.

API reports provide information about whether schools meet state requirements under the Public Schools Accountability Act (PSAA) of 1999. Similarly, AYP and PI reports provide information about whether schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) meet federal requirements under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). (An LEA is a school district or county office of education.)
