Office of Infrastructure Protection
The Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP) leads and coordinates national programs and policies on critical infrastructure security and resilience and has established strong partnerships across government and the private sector. The office conducts and facilitates vulnerability and consequence assessments to help critical infrastructure owners and operators and State, local, tribal, and territorial partners understand and address risks to critical infrastructure. IP provides information on emerging threats and hazards so that appropriate actions can be taken. The office also offers tools and training to partners to help them manage the risks to their assets, systems, and networks.
Vision and Mission
The vision of the Office of Infrastructure Protection is secure and resilient critical infrastructure across the Nation achieved through sound risk management, collaboration, information sharing, innovation, effective program management, and a highly skilled workforce.
The mission is to lead the national effort to secure critical infrastructure from all hazards by managing risk and enhancing resilience through collaboration with the critical infrastructure community.
Strategic Plan
The Office of Infrastructure Protection Strategic Plan: 2012-2016 addresses the Department’s responsibilities for safeguarding critical infrastructure, both physical and cyber, by reducing risk, sharing information, enhancing resilience, and promoting preparedness for all hazards.
Leadership and Organization
The Office of Infrastructure Protection is led by Assistant Secretary Caitlin Durkovich.
Infrastructure Information Collection Division
The Office of Infrastructure Protection’s Infrastructure Information Collection Division (IICD) leads the Department’s efforts to gather and manage vital information regarding the nation’s critical infrastructure. The division helps ensure needed infrastructure data is available to homeland security partners by identifying information sources and developing applications to use and analyze critical infrastructure data.
Infrastructure Security Compliance Division
The Infrastructure Security Compliance Division (ISCD) is a division within the Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP) of the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD). The Infrastructure Security Compliance Division is responsible for implementing the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS), the nation’s program to regulate security at high-risk chemical facilities, and a proposed Ammonium Nitrate Security Program.
National Infrastructure Coordinating Center
The National Infrastructure Coordinating Center is the information and coordination hub of a national network dedicated to protecting critical infrastructure essential to the Nation’s security, health and safety, and economic vitality.
Protective Security Coordination Division
The Office of Infrastructure Protection's Protective Security Coordination Division provides strategic coordination and field operations support to reduce risk to the nation's critical infrastructure and key resources from a terrorist attack or natural disaster.

There are 16 critical infrastructure sectors whose assets, systems, and networks, whether physical or virtual, are considered so vital that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof.
