Department of Biology at Stanford University

Welcome!

In the Dixon Lab we use chemical, biochemical and genetic techniques to discover and characterize new cell death mechanisms, especially those that impinge on or are regulated by lipid metabolism.  We are interested in applying this knowledge to find new ways to selectively eliminate cancer cells and preserve the viability of damaged neurons. We are also actively engaged in training the next generation of scientists at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral level. The Dixon lab is affiliated with several joint ventures on campus, including the Center for Cell Biology, the Cancer Biology Program, and the Chemistry, Engineering & Medicine for Human health (ChEM-H) initiative. Work in our lab is generously supported by Stanford University, the National Institutes of Health and the Damon Runyon Foundation.
