Robert Garcia

Robert Garcia On the issue that a large number of the population opposed the healthcare reform bill, that number (suggested to be at 50% or more) needs to be qualified with the fact that probably half of those people are progressives that feel strongly that this bill did not go far enough. As opposed to conservatives who do not wha...t any healthcare reform at all and want to (incredulously) maintain the status quo.

Richard Monteiro Kate, All people were aware that Healthcare was a goal of Obama during the election so all Americans should rally behind the president on this Bill. Ahh, sorry Kate, I do agree with healthcare reform, and I am still on the fence about this bill. But this type of reasoning is too simplistic, I don't vote for a candida...te and tune out for 4 years if my guy wins, and I don't support everything my candidate may do. The dissent that we are hearing on Healthcare in this sense is a good thing the American public has been motivated to pay attention and voice there opinion. When this happens to this extent our politicians are supposed to perk there ears up in listen, not necesarily to what the loudest voice is saying but to what the majority is saying.

Health care reform is signed into law. Anger turns to ugly threats. And Google pulls out of China. Our weekly news roundtable goes behind the headlines.

Yep- that's why I don't like it. No public option, but instead we will be required to buy insurance from corrupt insurance companies. Major fail.

What is it that drives doctors and patients alike crazy? Who raises premiums at 10x the rate of inflation? Who keeps "losing" claims?
We all know, but for some reason they're the biggest winners in this new law.

Drew Fister

Drew Fister We need a clear distinction between education and indoctrination.
History can be written without imposing an ideological bias, but when it
is biased, I wouldn't call it education, it would be an attempt to
indoctrinate. When ideologues get involved in education - facts get
twisted to fit the bias and education becomes indoctrination.

John Munn

John Munn The Texas school book issue is something we are seeing in one form or another around trhe world - a rebellion against a sometimes godless science (it doesn't have to be godless), and regression to blind, conservative fundamentalism. Neither of these two sides is really sane or truly represents the truth.

Texas is not... the only place where a school board is driven more by politics and belief than by a desire to help or youth learn to think critically and have the skills necessary to advance our civilization. Not too long ago I heard a long standing Miami-Dade school board member with doctor in his titledeclare that "our school lunches are nutritionous [sic]" and "that no kids ever got fat eating there" when the tipical fare was hot dogs and french fries or cheese pizza, and the only vegetable they ever saw was ketchup. Oh well !

Is there anything we can do to help? What a lovely poet, the emotion expressed through her words is a blessing and gift. Truly remarkable. No wonder she as seen as a threat. It is without a doubt that her words can move mountains....let me know if there is something I can do.
