STANFORD, Calif. – Before high-powered offensive numbers, the No. 1 Stanford women’s volleyball team defeated No. 16 Arizona, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, Friday, at McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. The Cardinal improve to 15-0 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-12, while the Wildcats fall to 15-3 and 4-2 in the conference.

Four Cardinal players reached double-digit kills as the team limited itself to just 12 attack errors to hit .408. Junior outside hitter Jordan Burgess led the way, tying her career high with 19 kills on a .410 hitting percentage. Stanford held Arizona to a .259 attack percentage. Both teams tallied seven blocks.

Junior middle blocker Inky Ajanaku had 16 kills on 26 swings with just one error to hit a match-best .577. Senior opposite Morgan Boukather added 14 kills on a .444 attack percentage to go with seven digs, while redshirt freshman Merete Lutz finished with 10 kills and tied her career high with six blocks.

Junior setter Madi Bugg registered here fifth double-double of the year with a season high 57 assists and 13 digs. Senior libero Kyle Gilbert tallied a season-best 24 digs, while junior Brittany Howard totaled nine kills, 12 digs and four assists.

Arizona was led by outside hitter Madi Kingdon’s 22 kills, but the senior hit just .197. Taylor Arizobal added 14 kills, while Ashley Harris finished with 13.

Stanford wraps-up the road trip at No. 18 Arizona State on Sunday, Oct. 12. First serve between the Cardinal and Sun Devils is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
