STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford freshman sailor Luke Muller was named the #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week after dominating the PCCSC Men's Singlehanded Championships this past weekend to earn a berth at singlehanded nationals in just his second collegiate event.

A native of Fort Pierce, Fla., and a member of the U.S. Sailing Development Team, Muller is already on the path to become one of the next great Cardinal sailors. Muller has won both of the events he has sailed at this fall, and both came in singlehanded events. In his first event competing for Stanford last weekend, Muller cruised past the competition to win the singlehanded C-division at the Navy Fall to help propel the Cardinal to a fifth-place team finish.

Muller is the first Stanford male sailor to ever be named the #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week and the second member of Stanford sailing overall. Molly McKinney '14 was the first Stanford sailor to win the award back in 2011. Muller is also the first freshman to win since Akash Modi earned the award in April, and he is the first male student-athlete to win since Wayne Taylor on June 9.

Stanford sailing is off to a strong start after graduating one of the strongest senior classes in program history. The Cardinal won three conference championships this past weekend and earned three of the four total berths at stake for the Men's and Women's Singlehanded National Championship. Muller will be joined by senior co-captain Kieran Chung and fifth-year senior Sally Mace at nationals next month.
