COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Stanford finished the Art Adamson Invitational in second place after winning three events Saturday. Freshman Simone Manuel produced her third A-cut with a 46.62 in the 100-yard freestyle, classmate Janet Hu won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55.31 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team took the final swim of the meet.

“I’m pleased with our team’s performance this weekend,” said head coach Greg Meehan. “Racing hard three days in a row this time of year gives us feedback for how we can be successful in March. We definitely have some areas where we need to be better and I’m looking forward to working on those when we get back.”

Manuel continued to fill up the Stanford record book by clocking her third school record in as many days. The 46.62 eclipsed Lia Neal’s mark from last year’s NCAA meet and lowered Manuel's American record. The Sugar Land, Texas, native owns the program’s best 50-, 100- and 200-yard free records.

Hu ended the invite with four individual wins, including an easy victory in the 200 fly. She won by nearly two seconds (1:55.31-1:57.09) over teammate Mackenzie Stein. The top two, as well as Lindsey Engel in fourth (1:57.26) and Ally Howe (1:58.33) made B-cut times.

Stanford closed the meet with its fifth relay victory of the three-day invite. Maddy Schaefer, Manuel, Neal and Hu earned first place with an A-cut time of 3:10.77 in the 400 free relay, a time that would have won last year’s NCAA title.

Host Texas A&M’s 1,204.5 overall points was good for first, ahead of the Cardinal’s 1,137.5.

On the diving boards, Lilly Hinrich placed second in the platform competition with 287.5 points.

“Lilly was the highlight of the women’s side with our best finish of the meet on platform,” said diving coach Patrick Jeffrey. “She also was very consistent on springboard.”

Stanford closed its fall portion of the schedule and will start again Jan. 23 in Tucson, Ariz., against the Wildcats.
