STANFORD, Calif. – Another day, another set of postseason accolades for the Stanford men’s soccer team, this time on the academic side of things as the Cardinal placed four on NSCAA Scholar All-West Region teams the organization announced Tuesday.

Austin Meyer and Zach Batteer earned spots on the first team while Bobby Edwards and Ty Thompson were honorable mention selections.

Stanford’s four spots are the program’s most since five were honored in 2009 and Meyer and Batteer are the first Cardinal named to the first team since Bobby Warshaw and Dominique Yahyavi in 2010. Stanford was also the only Pac-12 school to have any student-athletes on this year’s list.

On the pitch, redshirt senior Austin Meyer punched in the game-winning goal to help Stanford knock off No. 15 California 3-2 in double overtime and clinch the Pac-12 title on Nov. 16. It was his second goal of the season, with his other score also being an overtime winner against San Diego State on Nov. 2. He also assisted on five others in 2014 while appearing in all 19 games.

Off the field, the three-time Pac-12 All-Academic first teamer sports a 3.77 GPA, already possesses his undergraduate degree in English will receive his master’s in journalism in the spring.

Batteer finished his career on The Farm with 20 goals and 48 points, including 12 points on four goals and four assists in 2014. A three-time conference all-academic honoree, Batteer was also selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team in late October. He owns a 3.39 GPA and will graduate from Stanford with a degree in earth systems.

Another senior, Bobby Edwards, entered his senior season with two career assists and scored twice and assisted on five others in 2014. His two-goal, two-assist, three-game stretch early in the year led Stanford to victories over Omaha, San Jose State and UCSB and on Sept. 26 he assisted on two of the Cardinal’s three goals in a win against Gonzaga.

Edwards has a 3.50 GPA, already holds his mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree and is currently pursuing a master’s in the same.

Ty Thompson was Stanford’s lone returner honored by the NSCAA on Tuesday as the junior’s 3.35 economics GPA earned him an honorable mention nod. He started 14 of 19 games and tallied one assist while holding down the Cardinal’s central midfield with Meyer.

Stanford had a historic season in 2014, including the program’s first Pac-12 Championship since 2001, a No. 1 NSCAA ranking, its most wins (13) since 2002 and its best winning percentage (.763) since 2001.
