MALIBU, Calif. – Utilizing its ninth different starting lineup, the 14th-ranked Stanford men’s volleyball team dropped a 25-21, 22-25, 15-25, 14-25 decision at fourth-ranked Pepperdine, Friday, at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif. The Cardinal fell to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Waves improve to 10-1 on the season and 6-1 in the conference.

The Cardinal made a lineup switch that moved All-America setter James Shaw to outside hitter and inserted rookie Kyle Dagostino at setter. Dagostino spent the entire fall season as the team’s setter while Shaw rehabbed an injury. Taking over at the libero spot for the first time this season was freshman Evan Enriques.

Stanford came out strong to start the match with a 25-21 win in the opening set. Playing with a lot of energy, the Cardinal hit .448 in the first with 15 kills and just two hitting errors while holding the Waves to a .267 clip. After hitting .333 with 16 kills in the second set, Stanford combined for just 17 kills in the third and fourth sets and hit just .052 down the stretch.

Shaw had a career high 18 kills on a .394 attack percentage to lead the squad. Junior middle blocker Conrad Kaminski added eight kills on .357 hitting to go with three blocks. Redshirt senior Daniel Tublin totaled nine kills, four digs and three blocks.

Dagostino tallied a career-best 41 assists in his second career start at setter. Enriques totaled a team-high nine digs. Redshirt freshman opposite Clay Jones finished with eight kills and seven digs.

Pepperdine was led by seniors Parker Kalmbach and Josh Taylor. Kalmbach tallied 17 kills on .424 hitting, while Taylor recorded 16 kills hitting .538.
