STANFORD, Calif. – No. 13 Stanford made sure its Senior Night would be a night full of celebration, erupting for a season-best 197.525 to defeat No. 25 Washington Monday in Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal’s team score is its highest since the 2008 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional when it finished second with a 197.525 to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Stanford (5-6-1, 3-4 Pac-12) registered season-best scores in bars (49.525) and floor (49.450), and tied its season high on vault (49.325). Five Cardinal gymnasts combined for six individual event victories.
The victory and season-best performance was icing on the cake for seniors Pauline Hanset, Ivana Hong, Samantha Shapiro, Kristina Vaculik and Rebecca Wing who were honored during the meet for their commitment and contributions to the program and university.
While the spotlight was on the seniors Monday night, the Cardinal received outstanding contributions from a variety of gymnasts that showcased Stanford’s depth.
Elizabeth Price made her collegiate debut on floor and was nearly flawless, scoring a 9.975 to place first. She earned a first-place result on vault earlier in the night with a 9.950. Price has accumulated nine individual event victories on the season.
Wing was terrific in the leadoff position on bars and beam for the Cardinal, earning a first-place finish in the latter event with a 9.900 to tie her season best. She tied her career high of 9.900 on bars to finish fifth.
Nicolette McNair, Vaculik and Hong each scored a 9.925 on bars to tie for first in the event. McNair went 9.900 on vault to tie for second, while Hong and Vaculik tied for third on beam with scores of 9.850.
Taylor Rice tied her career best on vault of 9.900 to tie for second. She tied for third on beam (9.850) and floor (9.875).
Haley Spector tied her career best on floor with a 9.925 to finish second.
Stanford will look to carry its momentum into its next meet this Saturday at 4 p.m. (PT) at No. 8 UCLA.
