GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Three individuals and one relay team will have shots at national titles tonight for the Stanford women’s swimming and diving team. Simone Manuel led the way with a meet record in the 100-yard freestyle on the final day of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

Manuel, a freshman who captured the 50-yard freestyle title Thursday, will be joined by sophomore teammate Lia Neal in the 100 free ‘A’ final. Manuel’s meet record time was 46.68, while Neal swam a 47.62 to qualify in fifth.

Senior Katie Olsen will get a chance at the 200-yard breaststroke championship on her final night of collegiate swimming after finishing second in the event last year. She was fourth in qualifying with a final time of 2:07.38. Sarah Haase, the 100 breaststroke champion, narrowly missed the finals with an 18th-place showing.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team will culminate the meet, as Stanford is the top seed at 3:11.96. Manuel, freshman Ally Howe, freshman Janet Hu and Neal combined on the effort.

The surprise of the morning was freshman Lindsey Engel qualifying for the ‘B’ final of the 200-yard butterfly by winning the second heat in 1:55.60. She dropped 1.52 off of her seed time.

Stanford is in third place of the team race, trailing California and Georgia.
