STANFORD, Calif. -- Washington clinched a series win over the Stanford baseball team with a 13-1 victory Friday evening at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal, which lost 4-2 Thursday, will look to avoid the series sweep tomorrow at 4 p.m. PT.

Washington (17-12, 4-7 Pac-12) wasted no time putting the game out of reach. The Huskies scored five times in the first inning and four more in the second, each on four hits, to open a 9-0 lead. Four-hole hitter Branden Berry doubled twice for three RBI and No. 3-hitter Braden Bishop added two hits and two RBI before Washington made six outs.

Bishop and Alex Schmidt each had three hits for Washington. Five Huskies had multiple hits.

Stanford (11-16, 0-8 Pac-12) worked through six pitchers. Sophomore Chris Viall (1-3) started and took the loss, while allowing four runs on three hits without registering an out.

Freshman third baseman Mikey Diekroeger led the Cardinal at the plate with two singles. The Cardinal’s lone run came in the ninth when Quinn Brodey singled in Bobby Zarubin with two outs. Zarubin and Luke Pappas each picked up their first career hits in the ninth.

Washington ace Tyler Davis (5-2) threw eight shutout innings, while allowing three hits, walking one and striking out one. He threw 104 pitches to lower his season earned run average to 1.89.

The Huskies earned their first series win at Sunken Diamond since 1997.

Tomorrow’s series finale will be aired on Pac-12 Networks. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher.
