STANFORD, Calif. -- Seven former Stanford baseball players made Opening Day rosters on Major League Baseball teams. The total is the second-highest among Pac-12 school’s behind Arizona State’s 11.
The Houston Astros have the biggest contingent of Stanford players with catcher Jason Castro and shortstop Jed Lowrie expected to take starting roles for manager A.J. Hinch, a member of the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame. Castro is also one of two former All-Stars along with Atlanta’s Carlos Quentin, who was dealt to the Braves April 4 from San Diego.
