STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 6 Stanford women’s rowing team will travel to Gold River, Calif. this weekend for the Lake Natoma Invitational.
Lake Natoma is the site of the 2015 NCAA Championships. The Cardinal will compete there this weekend and in the Pac-12 Championships on May 17 to try and prep for the end of the year regatta.
This weekend will be a good test for Stanford with two days of racing and some of the top teams in the nation will be joining them. Other teams competing include No. 2 Brown, No. 3 Cal, No. 16 Notre Dame, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Rhode Island, Sacramento State and San Diego.
The Cardinal will begin the weekend against San Diego and Loyola Marymount on Saturday. The varsity four will be the first race at 8:20 a.m. The 2V8 will be at 8:50 a.m. and the varsity eight at 9:20 a.m. There will also be two heats of the 2V4 race to end the morning session with the second heat featuring Stanford, Brown and Sacramento State.
Saturday’s afternoon session will start at 3:30 p.m. with some 3V8 races. Stanford will race at 4 p.m. against Notre Dame and Sacramento State in the varsity four. The 2V8 race is at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity eight at 5 p.m. The afternoon racing will conclude with the A and B finals of the 2V4.
On Sunday Stanford will go head-to-head with No. 2 Brown and No. 3 Cal. The varsity four race will be at 8:40 a.m., the 2V8 at 9:10 a.m. and the varsity eight at 9:50 a.m.
Last year at the Lake Natoma Invitational, Stanford made a big impression nationally when they swept races against No. 4 USC, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 20 USD, while finishing just behind No. 6 Brown.
This season the Cardinal varsity eight has won three of its four races, including victories over No. 2 Virginia and No. 8 Washington. The 2V8 and varsity four have made solid strides in each race they have competed in this season, posting some positive results against top competition.
