STANFORD, Calif. – Behind senior Madison Hayden, the No. 8 Stanford men’s volleyball team defeated No. 4 UC Irvine, 25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 26-24, Saturday, at Burnham Pavilion in Stanford, California.

Hayden finished with a team-high 17 kills on .452 hitting to lead the Cardinal (5-1, 3-1 MPSF). As a team, Stanford hit .339 while holding UC Irvine (2-4, 1-3 MPSF) to a .252 clip. The Cardinal also doubled-up the Anteaters in the block column, 8.0 to 4.0.

Senior setter James Shaw controlled the offense with 41 assists, while also collecting six kills, four digs and four blocks. Redshirt junior Gabriel Vega finished one kill shy of a double-double as he racked up a match-high 12 digs.

Stanford’s middle blockers both hit over .500 for the match. Senior Conrad Kaminski was 8-0-15 (.533), while redshirt sophomore Kevin Rakestraw finished 5-1-7 (.571). Kaminski also recorded four blocks and three aces.

Sophomore libero Evan Enriques registered double-digit digs for the second time this season, totaling 10. Freshman Jordan Ewert recorded six kills, six digs and three assists for the Cardinal.

UC Irvine was led by junior Tamir Hershko, who had a match-high 18 kills and eight digs. Jason Agopian added 10 kills and three blocks for the Anteaters.

Stanford hits the road next week to continue MPSF play at Cal Baptist on Friday, Jan. 29 and at USC on Sunday, Jan. 31. The match featuring the Cardinal and Trojans will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
