STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – Seniors Rosco Allen and Grant Verhoeven combined for 24 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Cardinal as Stanford dropped a 62-50 decision to Oregon State at Maples Pavilion on Thursday night.
Rosco Allen guided the Cardinal (11-11, 4-7) with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Verhoeven added a career-high 10 points in 22 minutes of action against the Beavers.
Tres Tinkle had 19 points to lead Oregon State, which won for just the second time at Stanford since 1993. The Beavers had lost 20 of their previous 21 games at Maples Pavilion, winning only in 2009.
The victory was the first for the Beavers in a conference road game since Jan. 17, 2015, snapping a streak of 10 straight road losses in Pac-12 play.
"We challenged our guys to turn it around, we've struggled on the road," Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle said. "I said we can start tonight -- this would be a great time to do that and start not a revolution, but maybe the evolution of our team on the road."
Gary Payton added 14 points and Malcolm Duvivier had 11 for Oregon State (15-8, 6-6 Pac 12), which has won three straight.
"It just came down to not getting enough stops," Verhoeven said. "We gave up way too many 3s and way too many layups."
Oregon State opened the second half with an 11-4 run to build an 11-point lead, and a 3-pointer by Payton with 8 1/2 minutes remaining made it 47-35. The Cardinal made a late run, scoring six straight points to pull within 51-46 with three minutes left, but Payton responded with a layup and Stanford never got closer than five points the rest of the game.
The Beavers led 33-29 at halftime after shooting better from beyond the 3-point line (6 of 12) than from inside the arc (6 of 14) in the first half. Duvivier had three of those 3-pointers and Tinkle had two.
Stanford returns to action Saturday (Feb. 13) against No. 11/12 Oregon at Maples Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. PT.
