STANFORD, Calif. – Behind a balanced offense and a strong defensive performance, the No. 6 Stanford men’s volleyball team swept No. 4 Hawaii, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16, Friday at Burnham Pavilion.

Stanford (9-2, 7-2 MPSF), which leads the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in hitting, posted a .389 clip while holding Hawaii (9-3, 4-3 MPSF) to a season-low .064 attack percentage. That marks was also a season-low by a Cardinal opponent in 2016.

The Cardinal also won the battle on defense, registering 10.0 blocks to 5.5 by the Rainbow Warriors. Stanford held a 21-18 edge in digs and put down eight service aces. It was the Cardinal’s ninth win over Hawaii in the last 10 matches on The Farm.

Stanford opened the match with a 25-18 win in the first set, holding Hawaii to a .100 attack percentage (its highest of the match). The Cardinal found itself down 19-16 in the second when head coach John Kosty subbed in Clay Jones. The redshirt sophomore served the final eight points of the set, capping off a 9-0 run with an ace. Stanford dominated the third, hitting .600 (10-1-15) as a team. Hawaii hit .000, committing 11 attack errors.

Senior Conrad Kaminski paced the team with 11 kills on .600 to go with five blocks. Senior Madison Hayden added nine kills on .500 hitting, four digs and two blocks, while freshman Jordan Ewert finished with eight kills, four digs and two blocks.

Senior setter James Shaw tallied 32 assists, while hitting .667 (4-0-6). He also notched four blocks and two digs. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Kevin Rakestraw recorded three aces and four blocks, while Jones finished with two aces, two digs, a kill and a block assist.

Sophomore libero Evan Enriques, a native of Punalu’u, Hawaii, had four digs and recorded his first kill of the season.

Hawaii was led by Sinisa Zarkovic, who was the only Rainbow Warrior to reach double-digit kills (10). Kupono Fey finished with six kills and five digs, while Brett Rosenmeier had five kills.

Stanford and Hawaii square off again on Saturday, Feb. 13. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT in Maples Pavilion.
