LA JOLLA, Calif. – In a complete team effort, the No. 3 Stanford men’s volleyball team swept UC San Diego, Thursday, at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla, California.

Stanford improves to 13-2 overall and 11-2 in MPSF play, remaining in a tie with top-ranked Long Beach State for first place in the conference. UC San Diego drops to 4-14 and 0-13 in the MPSF.

Fourteen Cardinal players saw action in the match, including season debuts by Russell Dervay, Colin McCall, Ryan Smith and Jake Stuebner.

Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Kevin Rakestraw led all players will 11 kills, matching his career-high, on 14 swings with no errors to hit .786. He also tallied five blocks and an ace in the win.

Senior outside hitter Madison Hayden finished with eight kills and six digs, while senior Conrad Kaminski was 7-0-7 (1.000). Senior setter James Shaw controlled the offense, which hit .427 for the match, with 21 assists and was a perfect 5-0-5 (1.000) offensively.

Redshirt junior Gabriel Vega notched five kills and five digs, while senior Alex Stephanus recorded three kills, three digs and five blocks.

Nathan Thalken led the Tritons with seven kills on .312 hitting, while Ian Colbert finished with six kills and five digs. As a team, UCSD hit .159.

Stanford wraps-up its southern California swing with a match at No. 13 UC Irvine on Friday, Feb. 26. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT from the Bren Events Center.
