Another Title for Manuel

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Simone Manuel earned a national title in the 100 freestyle on the final day of competition at the AT&T Winter Nationals on Saturday night, while teammate Lia Neal garnered the silver in the event.

Manuel edged Neal by three-hundreths of a second with a winning time of 53.98. It was the same margin of victory from her national-title swim in the 50 free on Thursday. Meanwhile, Felicia Lee was third in the B Final with a time of 55.35.

Maya DiRado, who also won two national titles at the meet, earned the bronze in the 200 breaststroke and the silver in the 200 backstroke. In the 200 breast, she placed third with a finish of 2:11.57, and nearly claimed another title in the 200 back with a finish of 2:08.28 -- just four-tenths of a second behind Missy Franklin.

Eastin was sixth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.38 and was also 49th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.09.

On the first day of action, DiRado and Manuel claimed national titles in the 200 individual medley and 50 free, respectively, while Eastin (200 IM) and Neal (50 free) won the B finals. On Day Two, DiRado led most of the way in the 400 IM and earned her second title in as many days. The former Cardinal finished in 4:36.85 -- the fourth-fastest time in the world this year.

Next week, Neal and Manuel will participate in the USA vs. European All-Stars on Dec. 11-12 at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis. Stanford assistant coach Tracy Duchac will also serve as a coach for the Americans.
