Captain - Monica Hew

captain@sbdt.org
Monica Hew is a graduate student in the Aeronautics and Astronautics department at Stanford. She started ballroom in Winter 2014, and has been on the team since then. In addition to ballroom, she is actively involved in a wide range of sports including fencing, scuba diving, climbing, and martial arts. It is her pleasure to serve as the SBDT captain this year, and she wishes that she and her officer board will be able to take the team to its next level.

Rookie Coordinator - Jamie Liu

Jamie Liu was introduced to ballroom a little over 3 years ago, when she joined the MIT team in 2010. It didn’t take long before she fell in love with the sport — from the practices and core workouts to learning how to effectively use a can of hairspray to the rush and adrenaline that comes with each competition. She now focuses on competing in International Standard, but is always happy to follow anyone in Latin.

Rookie Coordinator - Alice Lay

rookie@sbdt.org
Alice Lay never thought she'd be able to dance in heels, until she joined the ballroom team at UC Berkeley as an undergrad. Now, as a graduate student at Stanford, she continues to practice and compete in both International Standard and Latin. For her, dancing provides the perfect combination of fun, exercise, and socializing! Plus, you learn important life skills like applying fake lashes and "bedazzling" hair.

Class Coordinator - Solomon Wang

classes@sbdt.org
Solomon Wang joined ballroom as a way to recover his ankle after spraining it while playing tennis and badminton. He found the beginner lessons to be a very low key way to exercise without injury and SBDT to be a very welcoming and supportive organization full of mentors who gave personal attention generously. As a result, he enjoyed the experience and decided to continue improving his fitness through dance. He also learned that what you feel and intend to communicate can be drastically different from what is felt and received, and so improved his self awareness and communication skills.

Competition Coordinator - Joseph Bradley

competition@sbdt.org
Joseph Bradley started dancing as a kid with contra and square dance, but learned about the wonders of Ballroom and Latin during college. He tries to dance as much as he can between engineering distributed machine learning algorithms.

Social Coordinator - Elina Tzatzalos

social@sbdt.org
Elina Tzatzalos has been ballroom dancing since 2004. She loves how ballroom dancing unifies structure and discipline with freedom of expression. The result: a reflection of one's self. Always looking to explore new forms and ideas, Elina loves listening to others' ideas and interpretations of music and motion.
