Women’s golf defends home course in Peg Barnard Invitational

The No. 3 Stanford women’s golf team got its spring season started on a high note when it finished second of 13 teams at the Peg Barnard Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course over the weekend.

The Cardinal ably defended their home course for the second time this season, following up their first-place performance at the October Stanford Intercollegiate with another top-two finish, finishing behind only No. 21 Washington, which shot a remarkable 4-under 280 as a team on the second day to push past both Stanford and Oregon for the victory.

The Ducks had led after the first day but shot 14-over 298 as a team on Day 2 to fall behind for good and ultimately finish in fourth.

Junior Casey Danielson led after the first day and paved the way for Stanford with a second-place individual finish on the back of her 3-under 139, but she wasn’t alone in her dominance: Seniors Lauren Kim and Mariah Stackhouse also contributed top-10 finishes with 142 and 144, respectively. As individuals, all five Stanford golfers finished in the top 30 of the 70-woman field.

The Cardinal will next travel to New Orleans this weekend for the 54-hole All-State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, where they will compete against a loaded field featuring seven other teams ranked in the post-fall top-25 rankings.
