The Bay Lights Returns With Brilliant Permanence
San Francisco (February 10, 2016)—Leo Villareal’s monumental work of public art, The Bay Lights, returned to the Bay Bridge as a permanent installation on January 30, 2016. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, philanthropist Tad Taube, ILLUMINATE founder Ben Davis, and artist Leo Villareal pushed the ceremonial button at 7:25 pm.

SF Opera to Open in late February 2016
San Francisco Opera's new Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera, scheduled to open in late February 2016, will consolidate most of the Company's operations into a single campus in the vibrant and emerging arts district of San Francisco's Civic Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on February 12, 2016.
Touchdowns for Kids Celebrates 5th Season
Since the San Francisco 49ers Touchdowns for Kids program launched in 2011, Taube Philanthropies, the 49ers Foundation, Koret Foundation, and other supporters have donated nearly $1.5 million to support Bay Area organizations that enrich the lives of local youth. With every touchdown made by the 49ers, $5,000 is donated, and with each field goal, interception, and sack that's made, $1,000 donations are made.
European Premiere of Frank Stella Exhibit at POLIN Museum in Warsaw
SAN FRANCISCO – Frank Stella’s Polish synagogues series will have its European premiere at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, on February 19 through June 20, 2016. The internationally renowned American artist will travel to Poland for the first time to speak at the exhibition opening.
Notre Dame de Namur University Exceeded the $6M Taube Challenge to Restore Historic Ralston Hall
Tad Taube, chair of the Campaign to Save Ralston Hall, announced during a recent celebration that Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) not only met – but exceeded – the $6M Taube Challenge to save Ralston Hall, a California and national historic landmark.
Taube Philanthropies pledges $3 million to Ronald McDonald House
Tad Taube and Taube Philanthropies announce a new matching grant of $3 million towards the expansion of the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. Of the total amount, $1 million is a 1:2 matching grant; once the match is made, Taube will give an additional $2 million, thereby generating a total $5 million for Ronald McDonald House's "Hope is Growing Campaign."
Tad Taube Leads Support for Reopening of the Historic UC Theatre, a New Concert Hall Serving the Bay Area
This fall, a historic Bay Area landmark will be reborn when The UC Theatre in Berkeley opens with a new identity. Originally opened in 1917 as a first-run movie theater, and among the oldest and most historically significant theaters in Berkeley, the City of Berkeley landmark is being transformed by the nonprofit Berkeley Music Group into a live music venue with a focus on youth education programs.
Honorary Consul for
the Republic of Poland
In May 2007, the Republic of Poland appointed businessman and philanthropist Tad Taube, one of the Bay Area's distinguished civic leaders, to represent Poland as an Honorary Consul in northern California. Mr. Taube was born in Krakow, Poland, in 1931 and immigrated to the United States in the summer of 1939, just weeks before the outbreak of World War II. He has dedicated his life to efforts strengthening the civic and cultural life in both the United States and Poland and to building a close connection between the two.
