    Yet another example of why the government is neither willing nor able to hold children in its custody responsibly or humanely. Complaint filed last night on behalf of five-year-old boy subject to physical abuse by immigration jail guard.

    We just filed a complaint with DHS because a five year old was allegedly assaulted by an immigration officer. His deportation must be halted immediately and these allegations investigated.

    This is deliberate cruelty. Here’s what hieleras are like. - Overcrowded cells. - No beds. Just cold concrete floors. Sometimes mats. - No bedding. Just a thin Mylar sheet. - The lights never turn off. Good luck sleeping. - Every meal is a microwaved burrito or baloney sandwich.

    NEW: DHS started a pilot program in El Paso to rush families through asylum screenings and immigration judge reviews in 10 days while they sit in CBP custody. Access to counsel is virtually nonexistent. CBP is no place for people to stay while they fight for their case.

    Not only are families subject to inhumane conditions, CBP prohibits lawyers from entering its detention facilities. Without access to legal counsel, asylum seekers are set up to fail.

    🚨 Huge news out of Nevada, & a huge win for immigrants' rights activists. Las Vegas/Clark County quits ICE's prized 287(g) program. One of country's biggest law enforcement departments with a 287(g) contract; it covers most of Nevada. Also ends honoring ICE detention requests.
