Deborah Gruenfeld , PhD

Since 2000, Deborah Gruenfeld has been a Morghadem Family Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She is also co-director of the Executive Program for Women Leaders. Prior Stanford, Ms. Gruenfeld was on the faculty at Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. From 2000-2003 Ms. Gruenfeld was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Research in Social Sciences. Ms. Gruenfeld is a social psychologist who research focuses on the relationship between social structure and the working of the mind. Her current research analyzes the psychological consequences of having power. She also studies group decision making and the effects of minority and majority status. Specifically, she studies the interactions and reasoning in members of the U.S. Supreme Court. Her scholarship has been recognized with the Society of Experimental Social Psychology's Outstanding Dissertation Award, the American Psychological Association's Dissertation Research Award, and grants from the MacArthur Foundation. Ms. Gruenfeld graduated from Cornell University in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Two years later she received her M.S. from New York University. She went on to earn her Ph.D in psychology from the University of Illinois in 1993.
