David M. Kelley, founder and chairman of IDEO and a professor at Stanford University, is a successful California-based entrepreneur, educator, designer, and venture capitalist. David Kelley has been recognized as one America's leading design innovators by many publications, including Business Week, Fortune, Esquire, Upside, and others. He was described by I.D.Magazine as "the most sought-after design engineer this side of Thomas Edison." In 2000, he was one of six architects and designers honored with the annual Chrysler Design Award, and the National Academy of Engineering elected him to its membership, one of the highest distinctions given to engineers in the US, recognizing him for "affecting the practice of design." IDEO is a worldwide leader in the user-centered design of products, services, and environments. IDEO has won more design awards than any other firm of its kind, developing thousands of products across a wide range of industries.
