Douglas Rait is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Chief of the Couples and Family Therapy Clinic at Stanford University Medical Center, and the Director of the Family Therapy Program at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Following his undergraduate degree at Brown University, Dr. Rait received his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado at Boulder and completed fellowships at both Harvard Medical School/Children's Hospital-Judge Baker Guidance Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/Cornell Medical College.  He has been teaching residents, undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and medical students at Stanford since 1992. 

Dr. Rait has been twice honored by the graduating psychiatry residents with the Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching and four times as Outstanding Professor of the Year by the PGSP/Stanford Consortium. He has also received the Most Inspiring Mentor Award and the Academic Faculty Teaching Award in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Rait has consulted extensively with medical and technology entrepreneurs in the Bay Area.  His research interests include applying network analysis methods to understand the therapeutic alliance in couples and family therapy, family adaptation to chronic health conditions, the influence of technology on family relationships, and digital health applications in the behavioral sciences.
