Robert C. Robbins, M.D., is a professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery - Adult Cardiac Surgery and a professor (by courtesy) of surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. His clinical focus is in heart and lung transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, and thoracic surgery. Additionally, he is the Chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of the Stanford Institute for Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Robbins other current positions include: co-director of the cardiac clinical center, Director of the Heart, Heart Lung, and Lung Transplant Program, and director of the cardiothoracic transplantation laboratory at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Robbins has held various other positions at stanford as well. Dr. Robbins serves on the board of director of several companies including the international society of heart and lung transplantation, Cardia, Inc., Bay Area Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Cytograft Tissue Engineering, Inc. He holds A.A., and B.S. degrees in Chemistry from Millsaps College as well as his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Robbins went on to complete his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. In 1986, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Cardiothoracic Transplantation Department of Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He was also a clinical associate at the National Institutes of Health, Chief Resident of General Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and a Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University Hospital, a Pediatric Fellow of Congenital Heart Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine, and a Pediatric Fellow of congenital heart surgery at Royal Children's Hospital. He is the recipient of the New York Thoracic Society Resident Award, the Alpha Omega Alpha Resident Award and the General Surgery In-Service Award.
