Tom Byers is an engineering professor at Stanford University where he focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship education. He is a founder and currently a faculty co-director of the Stanford technology Ventures Program (STVP), which serves as the entrepreneurship center for the School of Engineering. Mr. Byers is also an affiliated faculty member of the Woods Institute for the Environment and Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford. In addition, he serves on advisory boards or committees of Harvard Business School's California Research Center, the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), the Business Association for Stanford Engineering Students (BASES), and the Silicon Valley Association of Software Entrepreneurs (SVASE). Furthermore, he is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education. Byers has also received the Gores Award at Stanford for Excellence in teaching, the university's highest honor, in 2005. Mr. Byers received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations research and an M.B.A. from UC Berkeley and later his Ph.D in Business Administration at UC Berkeley.
