Outpatient Treatment Program
The Bipolar Disorders Clinic offers state-of-the-art outpatient treatment for eligible individuals ages 18 and older suffering from bipolar disorders.
Research Studies Patients meeting specific criteria are additionally given the option to participate in clinical trials, which provide an evaluation, medication, additional education, and more intensive monitoring at no cost to the patient.
Evaluation Only
Dr. Ketter and Dr. Wang are available on a limited basis for one-time consultations for bipolar patients and their providers desiring evaluation and treatment recommendations. A consultation appointment lasts about 2 hours and includes a review of psychiatric records and a comprehensive report which is faxed to the referring provider. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or significant other to evaluations.

Who Is Eligible for Ongoing Treatment?
Eligible patients are those with Bipolar Disorder type I or II who live close enough to Stanford University to be able to visit the clinic regularly. Patients may not have schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, serious eating disorders, or active substance abuse. Child and Adolescent Evaluation and Treatment
All patients under age 18 are treated in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Kiki Chang , an assistant professor and director of the Pediatric Mood Disorders Clinic, supervises services for bipolar children and adolescents. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Bipolar Disorder
Dr. Culver offers didactic group skills training in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness based on Dr. Marsha Linehan's Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). This group also offers information and specific emphasis on skills related to bipolar disorder. This is a clinical treatment group (not a clinical trial) and treatment involves usual fees, which may be covered by some insurance. Participation in the research portion of the group is optional.
