Independent Laboratories, Institutes and Centers

The independent laboratories, centers, and institutes listed below report to the Dean of Research. Our Independent Labs provide significant support for interdisciplinary research at Stanford, involving hundreds of faculty members; administrative, research and technical staff members; and students at all levels. These units play a critical role in the Stanford mission of creating and sharing knowledge.

On February 18, 2010, the Vice Provost and Dean of Research, Ann Arvin, participated in a panel presentation at a meeting of the Academic Senate to discuss interdisciplinary research at Stanford, and, in particular, the activities of several of the Independent Laboratories, Centers and Institutes listed here.
