Personal bio
Cornelia Dekker received her BS degree from Michigan State University (Microbiology and Public Health/Human Medicine) in 1973 and her MD degree from Michigan State College of Human Medicine in 1976. She completed a Pediatric residency program(1976-1979) then a Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (1979-1982) at Duke University Medical Center. From 1982-1983 she was a Senior Research Scientist at Wellcome Research Laboratories working on antiviral resistance in HSV before going to Paris as Chercheur Etranger from 1983-1985. Corry then began a career in vaccine development at Lederle Biologicals before being recruited to build the Clinical Research Group at Chiron Vaccines in 1988 where she became Vice President of Clinical Research and Medical Affairs, overseeing the clinical development of 18 vaccine candidates, including those for HSV, HIV, meningococcus, adjuvanted influenza, acellular pertussis, hepatitis A, B and C, Hib and CMV. In 1997 she left Chiron to serve as a biotechnology consultant and completed an additional post-doctoral year as Clinical Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellow at Stanford. Corry came to Stanford in 1999 as Staff Physician and Medical Director of the Stanford-LPCH Vaccine Program and is currently Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases). Her research interests are in the field of vaccine clinical trials and in vaccine safety; her current Stanford studies involve influenza vaccines in healthy volunteers, elderly, patients with MELAS syndrome and twins. Corry's expertise in vaccines has led to her inclusion on vaccine data and safety monitoring boards and an appointment to the National Vaccine Advisory Committee from 2005-2010.
