Personal bio
Renren Yang is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Comparative Literature with a concentration on modern and contemporary Chinese literature and culture. Before coming to Stanford, he received his M.A. and B.A. in English Literature and a B.L. (Double Degree) in Sociology from Peking University. He has been interested in hero and heroism in world literature, theories of authorship, genre criticism (particularly the novel and the drama), and literature in the age of digital culture. He is currently writing a dissertation on the transformation of authorship in contemporary China with the rise of digital and social media. He taught first-year Mandarin in 2012-13, TAed Complit classes "Literature as Performance" and "Imagining the Oceans" in 2014-15, and served as Sophomore College assistant for "the Cult of Happiness" in 2015 summer.
