Graduates of the Ford Dorsey Program in International Policy Studies (IPS) go on to exciting careers in government, multilateral organizations, business and technology, think tanks, nonprofits, and academia.  

With its intimate class size and comprehensive career resources, IPS supports students at each stage of their search for meaningful work.

Career Workshops

In conjunction with BEAM, Stanford’s career center, IPS hosts workshops on résumés, networking, and job search strategy to help students succeed in their career pursuit.

One-on-one Advising

The IPS team works directly with students to define their career interests, refine their résumés, identify opportunities, and approach organizations through networking with alumni and other contacts.

Access to a Distinguished Alumni Community

The IPS team works with alumni to develop career and internship opportunities, advise students, and introduce students to their networks. Alumni visit Stanford to share information about their career paths and to recruit IPS students.

Stanford Faculty Mentoring

IPS students’ interaction with Stanford’s esteemed faculty goes beyond the classroom.

Each IPS student is assigned to a faculty advisor in his or her area of interest.  Faculty advisors meet with students to discuss their interests, suggest resources, and introduce students to colleagues and associates at Stanford and beyond.

IPS also provides opportunities for students to work as research and teaching assistants and case writers to faculty and Freeman Spogli Institute (FSI) fellows for classes and specific projects of mutual interest.

IPS 2011 alumni Charles Nicas, Justine Isola, and Kia Ghorashi assisted former Secretary of State and Stanford Professor Condoleezza Rice on the research for her book, No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington.They were subsequently employed by Professor Rice to be her staff at the Hoover Institution and at her firm RiceHadleyGates.
