What's New New

  • All PHS-Assured institutions must fully implement the newly revised AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals: 2013 Edition, including the use a flow meter device on all rodent CO2 euthanasia chambers in order to deliver a gas displacement rate of 10-30% of the chamber volume/min.  APLAC will begin inspecting all animal use areas for compliance with this new requirement during regularly scheduled semiannual inspections.  All labs will be expected to be in compliance by June 30, 2014.

  • The following APLAC Guidelines were recently revised in response to the 2013 AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals:  Guidelines for Use of Carbon Dioxide for Rodent Euthanasia and Guidelines for Use of Cervical Dislocation for Rodent Euthanasia.

  • Important eProtocol Update:  When a renewal reminder has been sent, indicating a protocol is nearing its expiration date, the protocol number on your eProtocol dashboard with be highlighted with an orange background.  Once a renewal has been created, the orange background will revert to white.  Please remember to submit the renewal to the APLAC office so that your protocol does not expire!

See eProtocol News & Events for details.
