Civil Infrastructure

Stanford’s civil infrastructure consists of a vast array of water, drainage, and sewer systems, dams, bridges, and paved roads and parking lots, all serving the academic, research, and residential buildings and lands of Stanford. The civil infrastructure is managed in the Water Services and Civil Infrastructure Group within Utilities Services in the Sustainability and Energy Management department.

Roads and Parking Lots

Stanford owns and maintains over 49 miles of private roads and malls, along with parking lots, throughout its academic, commercial and residential areas.

Bridges

Several bridges are maintained by the Civil Infrastructure Group, including two at Piers Lane at the confluence of San Francisquito Creek and Los Trancos Creek, one on Family Farm Road, and another off Alpine Road in Ladera.

Dams

Stanford has three dams associated with water/runoff storage reservoirs (Searsville, Felt, and Lagunita) and two in creeks at its water diversion facilities (see Lake Water System).
