Transcribing semantic content and describing or commenting upon physical characteristics and semantic content of manuscript pages and structures forms the root of a significant portion of the work for which manuscripts and their digital facsimiles are used.
- Annotation: The field of annotation tool development in the digital humanities is in a period of ferment. We have identified four tool developers in this area with whom we hope to work during the course of our two-year funding cycle. Each tool brings with it unique features and requirements.
- Transcription: We will be working primarily with one transcription tool that has been developed as a next-generation, edition-centered tool which marries line-parsing of digital images with a text editor to allow mapping of line transcriptions to specific regions of a digital facsimile.
