About

The East Asia Library, Stanford’s primary Asian studies collection, holds over 680,000 volumes in the social sciences and humanities for all historical periods in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages. With access to more than 800,000 volumes of online books and journals, EAL collections also consist of special collections, government documents, media, and periodicals.

Access

The East Asia Library is located in the Lathrop Library, with collections on the basement, 2nd and 3rd floors of the north building. The entrance to the library is located on the 2nd floor. Wheelchair/disabled access to the EAL is via the elevators at the south building of Lathrop Library.

Accessibility

The EAL is accessible to people with limited mobility. Ask at the circulation desk for help in getting items located on upper/lower shelves. If staff assistance is needed, please call the circulation desk (650-725-3435).

The East Asia Library is located in the Lathrop Library building, 518 Memorial Way, just east of the Oval.

Transit and parking

Marguerite lines X, Y, and P run close to the East Asia Library, with stops at Serra and Galvez Streets (X, Y) and the campus Oval (P). Pay & Display visitor permit parking may be found at the Visitor Center/Track House lot and Memorial Way. The campus Oval includes a small number of coin-metered spaces.
