We are very pleased to announce that Jonathan Manton has accepted our offer to become the new Sound Archives Librarian in the Archive of Recorded Sound at Stanford University.

Jonathan comes to Stanford from the Britten-Pears Foundation, in Aldeburgh, England, which is an archive devoted to composer, Benjamin Britten, and tenor, Peter Pears. He began his work there as a cataloger for the Benjamin Britten Thematic Catalogue Project (www.brittenproject.org) and advanced to the position of Technical Support Officer, where he was responsible for the technical development and maintenance of the project's custom database, retrieval solutions, user interface, and digital content creation and description. This is the first online thematic catalog that has been developed fully describing and presenting the works of a composer that includes access to digitized manuscripts and digital recordings.

Jonathan has a MSc in information and library management from the University of Northumbria in Newcastle, a MM in electroacoustic music and sonic arts and a BA in music from the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

Jonathan will be responsible for public services and improving access to the Archive's collections. His experience in innovative uses of technology and approaches to access will greatly benefit patrons using the Archive. He will begin at Stanford on 3 December 2012.
