SUL Chalk Talks and Ref Forums are an important avenue for sharing information and for Library staff development, and interest in and attendance at both of these series has reflected our community's desire to continue them.  For 2013, the organizers of the two programs will be coordinating more closely than before, scheduling events in alternate months, and generally with sessions only once per month.  We hope this will allow even more of you to attend these series, but without over-burdening your work schedules.

Chalk Talks, which are intended to be interactive and to bring together diverse perspectives, support the mission of the Digital Initiatives Group (DIG).  Ref Forums were initially created by the Information Center (IC) as a venue to share information for public service staff, but the range of topics has been expanded to include many aspects of librarianship that are of interest to a wider group.  Attendance at both series is open to all staff of SUL and the Stanford coordinate libraries.

The program for the first two months of 2013 are as follows:

  • Wednesday, January 16, 2:00-3:00, a Ref Forum: "What We Learned at Conferences" (See the article, What We Learned at Conferences - January Ref Forum for more details.)
  • Thursday, February 21, 2:30-4:00, a Chalk Talk: "MOOCs, Online Education, and the Library"

For future sessions, send topic suggestions to the organizers, Glen (gworthey@stanford.edu) and Malgorzata (mschaefe@stanford.edu).
