About Camp
Camp cabins and lodge rooms provide comfortable accommodations each with private bath. Internet access is available throughout Camp, however mobile phone reception can be limited. Public phones, fax and message service are available in the main lodge.
Rates include three nights' lodging, meals from Thursday dinner to Sunday brunch and activities. Children age two and under stay free. Applicable taxes, personal expenses and staff gratuities are not included.

Preliminary preferences have been pre-assigned based upon online registration requests. Remaining slots will be filled on Thursday evening during sign-ups in the main lodge living room after dinner.

Presentation 1: YOUR BODY IN THE MOUNTAINS: SIERRA CAMP AND BEYOND

Featured Speaker: Anne Friedlander, PhD, PD ’87 , Stanford Adjunct Faculty, Human Biology
Professor Friedlander has broad research experience in the areas of enhancing human performance, environmental physiology, and using physical activity and mobility to promote healthy aging. She has been teaching in the Program in Human Biology since 1997 and served as the Director of the Mobility Division within the Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL) from 2006-2009 during which time she developed innovative strategies to enhance mobility and physical function throughout the lifespan. Prior to working at the SCL, Dr. Friedlander was both the Director of the Exercise Physiology Lab and the Associate Director for Education of the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Born and raised in San Francisco, she runs, hikes, bikes and skis whenever possible and feels most grounded when she is enjoying nature and the mountains. Dr. Friedlander received a BA in Biology from Wesleyan University, a Masters and PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of California, Berkeley, and conducted her post-doctoral training in the Division of Endocrinology, Geriatrics and Metabolism at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Since 1981, Joel Simon has been a free-lance travel writer and photographer. He has also worked in the travel industry in multi-faceted capacities that include itinerary design and implementation, and tour management. As a frequent staff member on group programs lecturing on travel writing and photography, he has participated in over 100 land, ship, train and plane based programs with Zegrahms, Smithsonian, World Wildlife Fund, Abercrombie & Kent, Travel Dynamics, High Country Passage, Harvard Museum of Cultural and Natural History, and the Stanford Alumni Association Travel/Study programs, among others.
HIKING

Klaus Porzig, ’69, MD ’73 leads an unstructured, early morning hike and dawn photography session to Glen Alpine Falls. Limit 25.
*Guided Hike – MODERATE

Hike to Angora Ridge (4 miles) with hike leaders, weather permitting. Moderate difficulty. Age 12 and up. Limit 25.
Wilderness Preserve
Individuals who wish to hike in the Wilderness preserve must get passes from the reception desk.

*Acrylic Painting

Jane Lombard, MD ’83 and Nancy Hillis, Resident ’93 have agreed to an encore session of their annual acrylic workshop. Learn to paint with acrylics and explore your creative side. No previous art experience necessary but you must be 13 years of age or older. Limit 25.

Learn to target shoot a bow and arrow. Age limit 13 and up. Limit 16 per session.
Ball Sports
Daylight Hours
You can play basketball, volleyball, tennis (you need to bring your own balls and racket), or ping pong on the camp’s courts. Courts are open throughout daylight hours and equipment can be requested from any camp staffer.
Boating
Daylight Hours
The boat dock is open throughout the day. Campers can paddleboat, canoe, kayak, or sail on Fallen Leaf Lake. Camp staff is at the dock to provide basic instruction as needed.

Disco Bingo

Indescribable, but always the favorite activity of the weekend. Disco costumes are encouraged, or borrow some props from our staff. All are welcome.
*Drawing with Light - New!
Friday, 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Combining digital photography with colored lights, this activity allows you to enjoy taking photos of ‘drawing in the dark.’ Updating the process used by LIFE Magazine photographer Gjon Mili with Pablo Picasso in 1949, Joel Simon will instruct families how to take time-delayed photography of you or your child with moving light. All Ages. Limit 25
Family Games
Saturday, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Family fun on Baby Beach with relay races, egg toss, and more. Activities led by camp staff. All ages.
*From Scotland to Stanford: A Tasting of Scotch Whisky
Friday, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Whether you're a scotch drinker or a bourbon fan, or you just want to develop an appreciation for dark liquors, this session is for you. Alumnus Ted Leng, MD ‘05 will introduce you to the history and science behind cask-aged spirits. Learn the difference among single malt, blended, and grain whiskeys, and why scotch has been called the “granddaddy” of all whiskeys. You will learn the correct way to taste and evaluate different styles of single malt scotch by sampling 5 expressions, and comparing flavor profiles. Must be over 21 to participate.

Relax with a total body experience. Our yoga instructor is also licensed masseur and will offer private one-hour massage sessions. Cost of massage and gratuity is the responsibility of the participant. No pre-registration, on site sign-ups only. $100/hour plus tip.

Cruise Fallen Leaf Lake on our Stanford Pontoon and enjoy the shoreline scenery. Learn about the origins of Stanford Sierra Camp and local history including the Angora Ridge forest fire and how the area’s lakes were formed. Limit 22.
*Stargazing Cruises – From A to Z: Astronomy to the Zodiac

This is a pontoon ride to the center of the lake where the night sky and constellations will be in full view. Listen while our camp guide identifies the many stars and planets enhanced by the pristine darkness and altitude of Fallen Leaf Lake’s location. Our guide will provide a fascinating look at the planets and stars, the stories behind the signs of the zodiac, and the many myths associated with the constellations. Weather permitting (no clouds). Dress warmly, blankets and hot chocolate provided. Limit 22.
Voices of the Community- Digital Mosaic Project

Join us for a fun activity where your creativity helps launch the new Stanford Adult Hospital opening in 2019. Draw a picture, write a message with colorful background, or include a message inside your picture. Share what health and wellness means for you, or gratitude to a special doctor, nurse or health worker. Alumni and children of all ages are encouraged to submit a drawing that will become part of a collaborative digital exhibit and mosaic image. Later in the year you can view online where your picture has been placed in the digital collage.
