Welcome to the Stanford School of Medicine Career CenterThe School of Medicine Career Center provides critical support for the exploration of career options, development of professional skill sets, and connections to opportunities. We house career and professional development resources via in-house and online libraries. Further, as career counselors, we provide insight into the career development and job search process one on one. Finally, we partner with alumni, faculty, and experts in myriad fields around discussion groups and curricular efforts. This curriculum, aimed at increasing awareness of and marketability for these various options, supplements an already strong scientific foundation with innovative and practical skill sets. Through all of our services and offerings, we empower our trainees in both defining their individual passions and short and long term goals as well as those impacting other organizations, cultures, and communities regardless of external expectations of career choice. Genentech has been at the forefront of the biotechnology industry, using human genetic information to develop novel medicines for serious and life-threatening diseases. Presenters: Maya Benbarak is a Manager of Pipeline & Portfolio Planning at Genentech; she has a PhD in Immunology from Stanford. Daniel Brickman is the Global Head of Oncology Pipeline & Portfolio Planning; he has an MA in Statistics and a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan. LinkedIn is the predominant social media platform used by job seekers, employers, and recruiters. In this workshop, you'll learn how to create and refine your LinkedIn profile and hear LinkedIn tips. You'll also have the opportunity to write your headline and summary, which are the most challenging parts of a profile. In addition, we'll touch on other social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, and ResearchGate. RSVP today: Register online Industry Insights: The American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellowship OpportunitiesDecember 14, 12:15pm - 1:15pm Interested in contributing to science policy at the federal level? The AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship connects science with policy to foster a network of STEM leaders who understand government and policymaking and are prepared to develop and execute solutions to address societal challenges. Learn how you can contribute to public service. Fellows serve in yearlong assignments in all three branches of the federal government in Washington, DC. RSVP: Register online Preparation & Practice: Biotechnology Business and Finance (SOMGEN 239)Winter Quarter, Thursdays, 4:30pm - 6:20pm This course combines guest lectures with case study and hands-on projects to develop and hone the translational skills necessary for success in the biotechnology business and finance fields. Students will interface with alumni and other practitioners within a variety of roles to increase awareness of business terminology/theories and to develop a high-level understanding of the business of biotechnology: From intellectual property licensing, company founding and fundraising through corporate organization, market analysis, financial strategy, and product development/growth. *Open to all Stanford PhD, MD, and Postdoctoral trainees. Once approved, you can register via AXESS; TGR students and postdocs will be required to pay $150, refundable after completing assignments and at least 8 of 10 classes.
